A Beginner's Guide To Cacti and Succulents

Succulents are wonderful plants to gift and have in your home. They are vigorous plants, incredibly easy to care for, and they come in all colors, sizes, and textures. They make fantastic accessories, DIY gifts, décor for the home, inventive additions to wedding bouquets—and the list goes on, according to a fun and informative Buzzfeed article titled, “32 Reasons Succulents Are The Best Plants Ever”. Succulents may require low maintenance, but they are both beautiful and long lasting. In general, succulents prefer dry humidity and warm conditions and can adapt to almost any lighting situation (although they favor direct sunlight). Allow the soil to dry out between watering to avoid any rotting. There are a wide variety of succulents out there, but if you’re a beginner and don’t know where to start, these are the most popular and versatile succulents out there:

• Hens & Chicks - are all-around the most versatile out of the three succulent plants that we are going to highlight. You can go the simple route and place them in charming, decorative containers (like a teacup!) or even browse Pinterest for great DIY tutorials on how to create your own year-round wreath with succulents that you’ve purchased at Plant Shed.
• Burro’s Tail – If you’re running out of desk or counter space—do not fear. The Burro’s Tail is the perfect succulent for hanging. In the springtime, these vines produce small pink flowers.
• Aloe – Aloe vera plants are medicinal plants. It has been used for a variety of ailments, and as an ointment for burns, cuts, and rashes, as well as an ingredient in various beauty preparations.
