How to Create the Ultimate Fall Tablescape

How to Create the Ultimate Fall Tablescape
Decorating your tabletop for fall is a wonderful way to celebrate the season. Just like the holidays have their customary colors and accents, so too does this crisp, cool time of year. Swift changes in temperature, dimmer skies, and beautiful colors abound all serve as serious inspiration for beautiful tablescapes.
Better yet, you don’t have to entertain to get into the spirit of the season. Even if you aren’t expecting company, you can transform your home and put yourself in the perfect state of mind for all things warm, cozy, and festive. What better way than this? Here are a few fun ideas that you can easily incorporate.
Add Autumnal Hues
Rich hues like orange, mustard, brown, wheat, sage, rose, navy, and eggplant are some of the most radiant of the rainbow. They also happen to make gorgeous additions to your tablescape. With so many options, you can easily incorporate a few and transform your dining space into a seasonal wonderland. Take your pick from all kinds of elements, including seasonal fruits, floral arrangements, table runners, napkins, and other accents. Once you have a variety at your disposal, you can easily mix and match and create fun and fresh looks throughout the season.
Celebrate the Holiday
Fall’s signature holiday is a good excuse to decorate your tablescape, too. You can make it as obvious as you like, with floral arrangements featuring roses, yellow orchids, and orange calla lilies and miniature pumpkins in colors like orange, white, and gold. Mix them up to develop a festive, one-of-a-kind look. Don’t forget the spooky extras, like black crows and cats and witches hats. Fill little crystal jars with candy corn and chocolate candies to add a little sweetness to the mix.
Introduce Some Greenery
If you’d prefer to embrace a neutral look, add a few green plants to the table instead. This is a great idea in a relatively rustic kitchen where wood and natural tones reign. Small snake plants and succulents make perfect additions that you can also situate elsewhere in the home when you want to swap your tablescape design. Try a bottled terrarium if you favor something even more subtle. Want to add a little pop of color? Fill a basket with red apples and place it in the center; it complements the greenery perfectly.

Add Sweet Fragrances
A little bit of fragrance brings some additional warmth to the table, too. You can set several scented candles in holders or a sleek crystal dish and light them whenever the mood strikes. It’s best to do that when you aren’t eating, or just to lend the room a cozier, more comforting feel. Potpourri is another option, although you don’t want your scents to compete with your meals. When you’re dining, shift the potpourri to a nearby table or another room.
Layer Your Elements
While there’s a risk in overwhelming your tablescape with too many elements, don’t shy away from going all out. Layer your pieces strategically, beginning with a decorative table runner to create a sense of separation. Or use place settings at each chair and reserve the center portion of the table for décor. Start in the center and work your way outward, beginning with a large piece as the focal point. Then gradually make your way down the sides. You can introduce larger elements along the edges of the tablescape, too, to bring it all together in a cohesive way. With the right colors and accents included, you can easily create a fall tablescape to remember.
