Fittonias produce delicately veined leaves, performing best in bright indirect or low sunlight with high levels of humidity. Here it is planted in a speckled ceramic pot with a seafoam green band. Check the soil for dampness twice a week. If dry, add about a half cup of water, keeping in mind that any excess will build up in the bottom and should be avoided.

Plant Care Guide
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light as well. Avoid direct sunlight.
Water
Must be watered every few days. If too dry plant will "faint" but will perk up when watered. Prefers high humidity, making it a good choice for terrariums.
Level of Care
Needs a little extra care. Just make sure the plant is watered regularly and is not in too much sunlight.
Air Purifying
Fittonias remove toxins that can build up in indoor spaces. A general rule of thumb is 1 medium houseplant per 100 square feet of space effectively cleans the air we breathe.
Fertilizer
Feed with a mild liquid, indoor plant fertilizer about once a month during the growing season. Do not fertilize in winter.
Temperature
Prefers warm conditions above 55°F. Keep away from drafty windows and air conditioners.
Soil
A peaty All-Purpose potting soil with good drainage works best.
Pruning & Propagation
Prune yellow or damaged leaves to stem. Pinch off flowers to keep from seeding. To propagate, dip stem cuttings with leaves in rooting hormone before planting in seed starter soil. Make sure soil stays moist.
Pet Friendly
Yes! Fittonias are non-toxic to dogs and cats.
